Tests revealed that two out of three top-rated car wash products are designed for use with just a bucket and a wash mitt. While pressure washers can be satisfying, they do not automatically guarantee better results; the effectiveness of the cleaning product is more important.
For optimal results, it is recommended to rinse the car with buckets of water before washing to remove loose dirt. When cleaning, use straight, gentle passes rather than circular motions to avoid leaving fine marks on the paintwork. Using two buckets, one for soap suds and another for rinsing the wash mitt, can also help prevent dirt from being reapplied to the car.
Other advice includes drying the car with a microfibre towel to prevent water spots and streaks, avoiding washing in direct sunlight, and using the recommended amount of shampoo. Dedicated wheel cleaners and separate sponges for wheels are also suggested for tackling stubborn grime.
