Job interviews have always been a nerve-wracking experience for many, but today's applicants face an entirely new screening process – AI-powered chatbots. According to recent research by the Institute of Recruitment Professionals (IRP), half of all job applicants are now faced with these digital assessments.
The IRP surveyed over 100 top recruiters and found that while AI interviews have improved hiring efficiency, they often struggle to accurately assess a candidate's personality, creativity, and problem-solving skills. To combat this issue, the recruiters revealed their top tips for beating the bots and securing a human interview.
One key phrase that stood out was 'Can you tell me about a time when...?' This open-ended question allows candidates to showcase their experience and give examples from past projects. Another crucial aspect is tone – being enthusiastic and positive can make all the difference in getting through to a real person.
Body language also plays a significant role, with one recruiter suggesting that 'maintaining eye contact and using gestures' can convey confidence and engagement. However, some candidates may be unaware of these subtle cues or feel uncomfortable expressing themselves in this way.
The IRP's findings highlight the need for job seekers to prepare not just their answers but also their non-verbal communication skills. By being aware of these key phrases and body language, applicants can increase their chances of getting past the AI interview and meeting a real person.
