Ben Affleck has candidly discussed his experience playing Batman in the 2017 film Justice League, calling it a "doomed" production and a "low point" in his career. The actor, whose new film Animals is now on Netflix, reflected on the film's troubled production.
Affleck told the Happy Sad Confused podcast that the Justice League experience was "so, so negative for lots of different reasons." These reasons included his personal situation at the time, a tragedy that occurred during production, and the studio being at odds with the filmmaker.
Director Zack Snyder left the film midway through production after his daughter's death, with Joss Whedon taking over. Warner Bros. reportedly requested Whedon change the film's darker tone. Affleck recalled this period as "s***ty," stating that Snyder being taken off the movie and the subsequent reshoots were "one of the s***tiest things" he had ever seen.
Affleck also acknowledged that his personal unhappiness contributed to his experience on set, explaining that he "wasn’t bringing a lot of positive energy to the equation." He has since sworn off starring in another superhero film.
