  • Pritchard's victory came despite a semi-final delay due to thunderstorms and a recent injury.

Welsh Para-rower Ben Pritchard has retained his PR1 men's single sculls world title at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam. The Mumbles-born athlete crossed the finish line in eight minutes and 50.46 seconds, establishing a new record for the World Championships.

Pritchard, 34, finished 6.81 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. He noted to World Rowing that the event had been a "story of calamities" due to Friday's thunderstorms, which delayed his semi-final, and issues faced during the race.

This latest victory follows Pritchard's 2026 European title win in Varese, Italy, and comes weeks after he sustained an injury earlier this month. He is a prominent figure in para-rowing, having secured Paralympic gold in 2024 and accumulated multiple world records, European, and world titles.
