Christopher Berry-Dee, known as the UK's bestselling true crime author, is facing multiple accusations of violence against women and children, according to a Guardian investigation. Family members, friends, and former associates have made these allegations.
His second wife, Tracey Dee, and their daughters, Zoe and Sasha, allege that Berry-Dee was a violent abuser. Tracey Dee claims that during an argument when she was pregnant, Berry-Dee put out a cigar on her face. She also alleges he once knocked her unconscious and on another occasion pointed a loaded shotgun at her.
Zoe, now 38, recalls finding clothes a murdered nine-year-old girl had worn in a wardrobe in their home in the early 1990s. Sasha, 35, states she believes her father's profession is linked to a satisfaction in "hurting women, hurting children and violent crimes."
Berry-Dee, 78, has denied the accusations, stating, "I have not once committed any of the crimes you accuse me of." He declined an interview, citing a recent near-death stroke and medical advice to avoid stress.
Before becoming a true crime writer, Berry-Dee was a convicted fraudster, serving a one-year sentence in 1982 for forgery and receiving a separate conviction in 1988 for obtaining credit and evading liability while an undischarged bankrupt.
