England cricketer Jacob Bethell has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against Pakistan due to a knee injury. Bethell sustained the injury during the final One Day International against India and is expected to miss all three Tests.
In response to Bethell's absence, Surrey batters Ollie Pope and Dan Lawrence have been recalled to the England squad. Pope returns after being dropped during the Ashes, offering experienced batting and wicket-keeping cover. Lawrence, who is currently the second top run-scorer in Division One of the County Championship, will bat at No. 6.
Jordan Cox, who made his Test debut earlier this summer against New Zealand, is set to bat at No. 3. The squad also sees the return of seamers Sam Cook and Brydon Carse, with Shoaib Bashir as the sole specialist spin option. Joe Root returns as captain for the series, which begins on 19 August at Headingley.
