A biopic about conductor Sergiu Celibidache, *The Yellow Tie*, has opened in UK cinemas. The film, which was the most-watched Romanian film of 2025, chronicles Celibidache's musical path, including his appointment to the Berlin Philharmonic at the age of 33.
The movie also explores his belief that audio recordings could not represent the reality of live performance, despite hundreds of his works being released after his death in 1996.
Separately, a film titled *Abbie Conant: A Solo Among Men* tells the story of Abbie Conant, who was appointed principal trombone of the Munich Philharmonic in 1980 after a blind audition. Conant was demoted by Celibidache, the orchestra's principal conductor, who reportedly told her, "We need a man for the solo trombone." Conant won a discrimination case against the City of Munich after more than 12 years.
