Gasometer, a new 2,300-capacity venue in Stockholm, is set to open its doors on March 17 next year. Composer Jacob Mühlrad and visual artist Alexander Wessely are confirmed to be the first to host events, with gigs scheduled between March 17 and March 20.
The venue is a conversion of a gasholder built in 1899 and will be operated by hospitality and entertainment company Miramis. Julien Planté, formerly of KOKO in London, will oversee programming for the Gasometer.
The Swedish Royal Opera has also named the Gasometer as its temporary home for the next five years. The venue is expected to combine architecture, live entertainment, and advanced audio and visual technology. It features a newly built pillar-free theatre and a 1,000-capacity Dome space.
