A blue plaque honouring vet and author Alf Wight, known as James Herriot, has been unveiled at his former home, Rowardennan, in Thirsk. Wight built the property in 1953 and resided there for more than 25 years, writing his stories in the living room.
His daughter, Rosie Page, described the plaque as a "lovely tribute" to her father. Page and her brother, Jim Wight, attended the unveiling at the property on Topcliffe Road.
The house was purchased by Brian and Linda Halliday in 2024 and became part of the new James Herriot walk around Thirsk in 2025. Page noted that her father would have been 110 years old on 3 October, stating it seemed fitting for the plaque to be unveiled near that landmark birthday.
