A former prison officer and a convicted drug dealer are set to be sentenced on Friday after a court heard they shared more than 5,000 illicit Snapchat messages.
Jade Morris, 37, from Holmer in Herefordshire, worked in the maximum-security unit at HMP Long Lartin in Worcestershire. She was found to be in a relationship with Jerome Nunes, 35, a convicted drug dealer, after he threw a banned mobile phone out of a cell window in October 2022.
Ms Morris pleaded guilty in March to misconduct in public office and encouraging Mr Nunes to use a prohibited device. Mr Nunes, from Newport, South Wales, pleaded guilty in February 2026 to two offences under the Prison Act 1952 for possessing and using an unauthorised mobile phone.
Prosecutor Cathlyn Orchard told Birmingham Crown Court that Mr Nunes had 23 previous convictions and was serving a sentence for a drugs conspiracy offence. Ms Morris initially denied the allegations after her arrest in January 2023, but later admitted communicating with a prisoner in May 2024, claiming she felt intimidated.
Both defendants, who had been on bail, were remanded in custody overnight ahead of their sentencing.
