Boreham Wood reject £1m bid for forward Abdulmalik from Djurgarden

National League club Boreham Wood has turned down a £1m offer from Swedish top-flight side Djurgarden for their forward, Abdul Abdulmalik. This bid would have matched the record direct sale by a National League club.

  • Boreham Wood has rejected a £1m bid for Abdul Abdulmalik from Djurgarden.
  • The £1m offer would equal the record direct sale by a National League club.
  • Abdulmalik, 23, scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists for Boreham Wood in the 2025-26 season.

Boreham Wood's forward, Abdul Abdulmalik, is attracting significant interest from Swedish top-flight club Djurgarden, who have made two bids for the player. The latest offer, totalling £1m, has been rejected by the National League side.

This £1m figure is notable as it would match the record direct sale by a National League club, a fee Leicester City paid Fleetwood Town for Jamie Vardy in 2012. Abdulmalik, 23, had a breakout 2025-26 season, scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists as Boreham Wood reached the National League play-off final.

Abdulmalik came through Millwall's academy, representing England at under-17 level and securing consecutive Professional Development League South titles with their Under-21s in 2022-23 and 2023-24. He was released by Millwall in 2024 before signing with Boreham Wood as a free agent.

Djurgarden's interest aligns with their recruitment strategy of identifying players with potential to develop and increase in value. Their sporting director, Max Hahn, previously worked as head of recruitment at West Ham United.

Why this matters: The rejected £1m bid highlights the growing financial value and scouting interest in talent from non-league football, potentially opening pathways for more players to move to higher divisions or international leagues.
