  • The win moves Sunrisers Leeds to fourth in the table, six points behind third-placed Manchester Super Giants.

Sunrisers Leeds secured a hard-fought five-wicket victory against London Spirit in The Hundred women's competition at Headingley, largely thanks to a stellar performance from Australia all-rounder Annabel Sutherland. Her unbeaten 37 from 21 balls, which included a six to seal the win, kept Sunrisers' slim qualification hopes alive.

Chasing 137, Sunrisers had a strong start with Phoebe Litchfield scoring 30 off 17, but then lost three wickets for just two runs. Sutherland, however, steadied the innings with a 54-run partnership for the fourth wicket with captain Dani Gibson. Fellow Australian Jess Jonassen also contributed a crucial 13 runs off five balls to get them over the line with two balls to spare.

Sunrisers' bowlers also played a key role, restricting Spirit after a rain delay. Grace Harris's 51 had put Spirit in a strong position, reaching 91-1 off 50 balls before the break. However, they then lost six wickets for 35 runs, with Sutherland taking the wicket of Marizanne Kapp and spinners Hannah Baker and Deepti Sharma each claiming two wickets.

This result elevates Sunrisers Leeds to fourth in the table, though they remain six points adrift of Manchester Super Giants in third. London Spirit, with only one win from five games, are now on the brink of elimination.

Why this matters: The victory is crucial for Sunrisers Leeds as it keeps their chances of qualifying for the next stage of The Hundred competition alive.
