Brennan Secures Fifth Vuelta Stage Win, Youngest to Reach Grand Tour Milestone

Great Britain's Matthew Brennan has sprinted to his fifth stage victory at this year's Vuelta a Espana, becoming the youngest-ever rider to achieve five Grand Tour wins.

  • Matthew Brennan won the 17th stage of the Vuelta a Espana in Seville.
  • The 21-year-old is now the youngest rider to secure five Grand Tour victories.
  • Enric Mas maintained his lead in the general classification.

Great Britain's Matthew Brennan has continued his impressive Grand Tour debut by claiming his fifth stage victory at the Vuelta a Espana. The 21-year-old Visma Lease-a-bike rider triumphed in a bunch sprint during the 17th stage in Seville, outmanoeuvring Jordi Meeus and Magnus Cort.

This latest win makes Brennan the youngest-ever rider to achieve five Grand Tour victories. He celebrated by raising all five fingers as he crossed the finish line, mirroring his celebration from Tuesday's stage 16 win.

The 185km flat route from Dos Hermanas to Seville was anticipated to favour sprinters. While Spain's Sinuhe Fernandez and France's Enzo Paleni initially broke away, Paleni was eventually caught by the peloton with three kilometres remaining. Brennan then surged past Cort in the final metres to secure his victory.

In the general classification, Spain's Enric Mas held onto his lead, with Felix Gall in second and four-time Vuelta winner Primoz Roglic in third. Stage 18, a 32.1km individual time trial, is set to offer rivals a chance to close the gap on Mas.
