The British Art Show, a major contemporary art exhibition, is set to open this week in Coventry. This 10th edition of the show, developed and produced by Hayward Gallery Touring, is subtitled 'A Chorus of Strangers'.
The curator stated that their thoughts have increasingly focused on the notion of the stranger while working on the exhibition. The subtitle is not a direct reference to Keir Starmer's "island of strangers" speech, but it does allude to an earlier period in British history marked by antipathy towards outsiders.
The exhibition, which takes place every five years and tours the country, aims to provide a snapshot of the ideas and ambitions of a rising generation of British-born or based artists. This year's lineup includes critically acclaimed artists such as Alvaro Barrington, Lindsey Mendick, and recent Turner Prize winners Jesse Darling and Jasleen Kaur.
