Game developer Double Fine Productions has announced that a sequel to its heavy metal adventure game, Brutal Legend, will be created if fans contribute $100 million to their latest crowdfunder. This ambitious target is the sole stretch goal for their current project, a two-week "game jam" called Amnesia Fortnight 2026.
The studio has already exceeded its initial funding goal of £296,415 for the game jam, with 27 days remaining in the campaign. Double Fine acknowledged the $100 million goal is significant, noting that the most successful Kickstarter campaign to date raised approximately $46 million.
Earlier this year, Double Fine Productions became an independent studio, having previously been affected by a major restructuring at Xbox that involved changes in ownership for four studios and over 3,200 staff layoffs. The studio now has full control over its catalogue of games, including Psychonauts, Kiln, and Brutal Legend.
The announcement has generated a mixed reaction among fans, with some expressing scepticism about the feasibility of the $100 million target and concerns about the promise of a sequel under such conditions.
