Darrell Lambert, 40, has been jailed for six years and nine months after a court heard he drove over a woman twice during a burglary, just four days after his release from prison. His accomplice, Jake Laurie, 33, received a three-year sentence.

Ipswich Crown Court heard that Lambert and Laurie, both from Ipswich, broke into a Spar store in Stradbroke, Suffolk, on 30 July at approximately 03:10 BST. As they loaded stolen items into a car, Liluben Odedra, who runs the store, attempted to intervene and was reversed over by Lambert.

Ms Odedra lost consciousness and was taken to hospital, but did not sustain any traumatic injuries. The court was told Lambert had 169 previous convictions, including for actual bodily harm and burglary, and had been banned from driving.

Lambert admitted causing grievous bodily harm, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of burglary, and making off from a petrol station without paying. Laurie, of Hawthorne Drive, Ipswich, admitted two counts of burglary.
