California woman admits to second murder, faces 36 years to life

A California woman, Yolanda Olejniczak Marodi, 54, this week admitted to killing her wife, Rebecca Marodi, 49, a decorated fire captain. Olejniczak Marodi pleaded guilty on Wednesday to second-degree murder.

Rebecca Marodi was found with multiple stab wounds at the couple's home in Ramona in February 2025. She had reportedly expressed a desire to end the marriage.

Olejniczak Marodi had previously served a decade in prison from 2004 to 2013 after being convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the 2000 stabbing death of her then-husband, Jim Olejniczak. He had also recently informed her he was ending their marriage.

Following Rebecca Marodi's death, Olejniczak Marodi was arrested in Mexico in March 2025 and later handed over to US Marshals. She is scheduled to be sentenced on 2 September and faces 36 years to life in a state prison.
