Jason Arday, a professor at the University of Cambridge, has resigned from his position with immediate effect. This follows accusations of plagiarism and embellishment, and the university's announcement of a new investigation into his qualifications and career.
Professor Arday stated that the "relentless accusations, speculation and public commentary have taken a profound toll on me and on those I love." He described accepting the professorship as the "greatest professional privilege of my life."
Hours before his resignation, the University of Cambridge confirmed it had begun an investigation after receiving "new information" regarding Professor Arday's academic qualifications and honorary appointments. The university also noted that a number of ongoing complaints concerning academic misconduct are being handled according to its research policy.
