A car became airborne and lodged in the side of a council bus in Rocklea, Brisbane, on Wednesday evening. A Queensland driver has been fined following the incident.
The crash involved a blue Toyota Yaris hitting a traffic island, which catapulted it into the air before it smashed into the side of the bus. The back of the car was left protruding from the bus.
Queensland police allege that the driver of a black SsangYong attempted to merge from a centre lane and turn off near the intersection of Beaudesert and Granard roads. The Yaris driver swerved to avoid the SsangYong, lost control, and subsequently crashed into the bus.
The 45-year-old female driver of the Yaris was taken to hospital in shock. The 66-year-old male bus driver did not sustain serious injuries. Brisbane City Council confirmed there were no passengers on the bus at the time.
The 66-year-old male driver of the SsangYong was fined $690 and given three demerit points for driving without due care and attention.
