Cardiff City closing in on permanent deal for West Brom defender Bielik

Cardiff City is reportedly close to securing a permanent deal for West Bromwich Albion centre-half Krystian Bielik. This move would mark Cardiff's fourth senior summer signing.

  • Cardiff City is reportedly nearing a permanent deal to sign Krystian Bielik from West Bromwich Albion.
  • Bielik, 28, made 17 Championship appearances for West Brom last season.
  • The potential signing would be Cardiff's fourth senior summer recruit and could address their current lack of fit central defenders.

Cardiff City is reportedly closing in on a deal to sign defender Krystian Bielik from Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion on a permanent basis. The 28-year-old centre-half featured in 17 Championship matches for the Baggies last season.

Bielik, a Poland international, previously joined Arsenal in 2015 and had stints with Birmingham City, Walsall, Charlton Athletic, and Derby County before moving to West Brom last summer. He would become Cardiff's fourth senior summer recruit, following goalkeeper Nathan Trott, midfielder Jack Moylan, and left-back Calum Scanlon.

The potential arrival of Bielik could be timely for the Bluebirds, who are currently without a fit central defender. Will Fish, Dylan Lawlor, Calum Chambers, and Gabriel Osho are all presently injured, though Osho is thought to be nearing a return. Bielik could potentially make his debut when Cardiff hosts Sheffield United on Saturday.

Why this matters: The potential signing of Krystian Bielik could provide much-needed defensive reinforcement for Cardiff City, who are currently facing a shortage of fit central defenders.
