Cardiff Half Marathon: Travel disruption expected for 30,000 runners

Travel disruption and road closures are expected in Cardiff today, 4 October 2026, as 30,000 runners take part in the Cardiff Half Marathon.

Warnings of travel disruption and road closures are in effect today, 4 October 2026, due to the Cardiff Half Marathon. Approximately 30,000 runners are registered for the 23rd edition of the race.

The 13.1-mile (21km) route will feature widespread road closures, with the race scheduled to begin on Castle Street at 10:00 BST. Participants will run past landmarks such as the Wales Millennium Centre and the Principality Stadium.

Transport for Wales has increased train capacity and added extra services on key routes into Cardiff. The park-and-walk facility at Cardiff City Football Stadium on Leckwith Road is sold out, but other city car parks are available on a first-come, first-served basis. A free bike park is located in Gorsedd Gardens.

The Met Office forecasts dry running conditions, with temperatures reaching up to 19C on a cloudy day with some sunny intervals.

What this means for you: If you are travelling to Cardiff today, expect road closures and potential travel disruption. Extra train services are available, but the Cardiff City Football Stadium park-and-walk facility is sold out.
