Irish indie band Cardinals have indicated their upcoming second album will be "darker" than their debut, 'Masquerade'. Speaking backstage at Reading 2026, frontman Euan Manning stated that the new material, currently in development, reflects experiences from their extensive touring.
The band is also looking to broaden its sound, with Manning mentioning an enjoyment of electronic music and heavier genres, including black metal. He clarified that while these are influences, the new record will not be a black metal or electronic album.
Accordionist Finn Manning noted that the band prefers writing in familiar, quiet locations like Cork city and Kinsale, rather than on the road. Cardinals are scheduled to tour Europe, the UK, and North America until the end of the year.
