Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open, delaying his return from a wrist injury. The seven-time grand slam champion has been sidelined since April, missing the French Open and Wimbledon.

The Cincinnati tournament, which is a key warm-up event for the US Open, begins on 13 August. Tournament director Bob Moran stated, "We know Carlos is doing everything he can to get back to playing tournaments as soon as possible."

Alcaraz had previously posted videos of himself returning to court and hitting balls after having his right wrist cast removed. His US Open title defence is now in doubt.
