A cash machine was ripped from a building connected to a funeral directors on a high street in Halstead, Essex, in the early hours of Thursday, 10 September 2026.
Police stated the incident occurred at about 01:50 BST. Officers arriving at the scene discovered one vehicle, used in the incident, still running.
The road was temporarily closed but has since reopened. No arrests have been made, though police have spoken to several witnesses and are appealing for further information.
Craig Collier, chief operating officer at Daniel Robinson & Sons, confirmed he was called in the early hours and arrived before 08:00 to see debris on the road. He clarified that the funeral home itself was not damaged, but a connected, separate building supporting the cash machine was affected.
