Hollywood actor Catherine Zeta-Jones has received praise from fans for using her natural Welsh accent in the upcoming thriller series, Kill Jackie. The 56-year-old, originally from Swansea, filmed parts of the Amazon series in her hometown, as well as in Bilbao, Lisbon, and London.
A trailer released on social media offered viewers a first look at the show and a snippet of Zeta-Jones's Swansea accent. One fan reportedly said they loved hearing the "queen of Wales sounding Welsh," while another commented on Instagram, "her Welsh is out and I love it, can't wait."
Zeta-Jones portrays Jackie Price, described by Amazon Prime as an extravagant jet-setter attempting to remain anonymous after escaping a "dangerous past as an international cocaine dealer." This marks her first major role using her Welsh accent, having previously spoken about her strong connection to Wales.
The series is based on the novel The Price You Pay by Nick Harkaway, published under the pseudonym Aidan Truhen. Damon Thomas, known for Killing Eve, also stars in the show, with Tom Butterworth of Gangs Of London serving as writer and showrunner. Zeta-Jones stated she had been looking forward to exploring a female-driven plot that "encompasses empowerment, identity and redemption."
