English golfer Charley Hull is aiming to break her major championship duck at the AIG Women's Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes this week. The 30-year-old, currently ranked world number three, has recorded five runner-up finishes in majors, including four since 2023 and two in the last year.
Hull expressed her frustration with finishing second, stating, "I feel depressed after [finishing second]. I just want to win one. The day I win a major championship is the day I’ll be able to fully sleep at night properly." She recently battled back at last month's US Open, finishing one shot behind Nelly Korda.
Despite her major drought, Hull has enjoyed a strong run of form, winning the Kroger Queen City Championship and the PIF Saudi Ladies Invitational in the past 12 months. These victories propelled her to a career-high world ranking, the highest ever for an Englishwoman in golf history.
Hull also acknowledged the increased prize money in majors, with this year's AIG Women's Open boasting a $10m total prize fund and a $1.5m winner's share. She noted, "I love playing for money. I’m not going to lie. That’s why I think I play so well in the majors."
