Chelsea striker Liam Delap is being allowed to leave the club, 14 months after his £30m move from Ipswich Town. The 23-year-old, who made his Premier League debut for Chelsea last year, scored only once in the league during the previous campaign and has been deemed surplus to requirements.
Sources close to potential moves indicate that Delap's £50m asking price is viewed as too high, despite clubs not doubting his ability. Chelsea have, however, shown a willingness to negotiate later in the transfer window.
Nottingham Forest and Leeds have shown interest, though Leeds have since cooled theirs. Delap's priority is to secure regular first-team football, whether through a loan or a permanent departure, following a season affected by injuries and a loss of confidence.
Delap recently lost his number nine shirt to Joao Pedro and has moved to a group of around 12 players who train separately from the main first-team squad. This new arrangement, implemented by manager Xabi Alonso, is designed to keep these players close to the first team while managing a large squad.
