A convicted child sex trafficker, Sharam Muhamadi, has appeared in court after being arrested in Switzerland and extradited to the UK.

Mr Muhamadi, 21, was found guilty in his absence earlier this year at Sheffield Crown Court of two counts of arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view of exploitation. He had stopped attending his trial in June, leading to a warrant being issued for his arrest.

The court previously heard that Mr Muhamadi helped Bawan Harwe contact girls aged between 12 and 16 on Snapchat, who were then groomed, abused, and raped by Harwe. Mr Harwe, 28, was sentenced to 29 years imprisonment in June.

Mr Muhamadi was brought before Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday and has been remanded in custody until his next hearing, scheduled for 3 September.
