Christopher Nolan's film adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek classic, 'The Odyssey', released last month, has inspired a large number of people to revisit the 2018 video game 'Assassin’s Creed Odyssey'. The film, which became the biggest live-action film of the year so far, has also reportedly increased interest in learning Greek.
According to Alinea Analytics, 'Assassin’s Creed Odyssey' experienced a 90 per cent increase in players across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox after 'The Odyssey' premiered. Daily active users for the game rose from 122,000 on the film's opening day, July 17, to 233,000 by July 27.
Rhys Elliot of Alinea Analytics noted that while software sales for the eight-year-old game saw a modest increase of around 400,000 copies year-to-date, the primary impact was on player engagement. Elliot stated that the film encouraged a “massive cohort playing it again,” providing data that could support an eventual 'Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Resynced'.
'Assassin’s Creed Odyssey' is an action-adventure game set during the war between Athens and Sparta, where players control a mercenary named Kassandra.
