Mark Fairless, CEO of ClearBank Group, has shared insights into his career path, which began on the checkout at Tesco in Milton Keynes before moving into the financial sector.
Fairless, who became CEO at 41, noted the rewarding experience of seeing ClearBank evolve from a fintech challenger into an established part of the UK’s financial infrastructure. The company currently supports more than 300 clients in financial services and the corporate world, has built a profitable UK business, and has established a presence in Europe.
He also reflected on his first role in the City as a graduate accountant at PwC and his time at Lehman Brothers during its collapse. Fairless emphasised the importance of embracing change and innovation to maintain the UK's position as a global financial centre.
