Teenager Thomas Rew has been appointed England Lions captain, a week after receiving his first senior call-up and central contract. The 18-year-old is expected to become the youngest captain in Lions history when he leads the team in three T20 matches against West Indies A in St Kitts and Nevis in November.
Rew, a wicketkeeper-batter, will skipper a squad that includes his older brother, James. Earlier this week, Thomas was also given an England developmental deal and named in a full squad for the T20 series in Australia.
Following the T20s, the Lions will play five one-day matches, with Test batter Dan Lawrence captaining that squad. Lawrence and seamer Sam Cook will use the Lions tour to prepare for the senior team's three Tests in South Africa in December.
Former England batter Jonathan Trott will manage the Lions' winter tours.
