Dangerous conditions that climate scientists have long warned about are now a common reality. The world is experiencing increased disorder and extremities season by season.
Wildfires are affecting cities and incinerating entire neighbourhoods in both hemispheres. Globally, marine heatwaves are bleaching corals and cooking seagrasses. This northern summer has seen temperatures in Europe that are typically associated with the Australian desert, leading to heat events that have paralysed countries, destroyed infrastructure, and killed thousands of citizens.
These conditions are occurring at barely 1.5C of heating since pre-industrial times. The current trajectory suggests the world is on track for nearly twice this level of heating.
