Coco Gauff kept her bid to become world No 1 on track with a 6-1 6-4 victory over 18-year-old Iva Jovic to reach the US Open quarter-finals.
The 22-year-old, bidding for a second Flushing Meadows title, overpowered the 14th seed in an hour and 33 minutes. Gauff, yet to drop a set, joked afterwards: "I'm used to being the younger American!"
Her win means all of the top six women's seeds have made the quarter-finals in New York for the first time since 1998. The women's quarter-final line-up features six grand slam champions, the reigning Olympic champion, Emma Navarro and Jessica Pegula.
Gauff will next face French Open champion Mirra Andreeva, whom she has beaten in all five career meetings. Andreeva came from behind to beat 24th seed Anastasia Potapova 5-7 6-4 6-3, with Potapova injuring her knee late in the match.
Elsewhere, two-time former champion Naomi Osaka revealed she is carrying an Achilles injury after losing 6-1 6-4 to Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina. Rybakina will become world No 1 if she reaches the semi-finals.
