A bricklayer from Nottinghamshire, Dale Wherton, has been crowned Britain's fastest after winning a national competition. Mr Wherton, who teaches at West Nottinghamshire College's Station Park campus, claimed the Super Trowel title at the Hertfordshire County Showground.
During the competition, Mr Wherton laid 859 bricks in one hour. Organisers stated that competitors were judged on the number of bricks laid, as well as the accuracy, consistency, and overall quality of their work.
Mr Wherton is now set to represent Britain at the Bricklayer 500 international championships, which will take place in Las Vegas in January 2027. He expressed pride in the achievement and the support received from the college and students.
As part of his preparation, Mr Wherton previously competed against Guinness World Record-holding bricklayer Charlie Collison at the college's construction campus. In that challenge, Mr Wherton laid 951 bricks in an hour.
