Kemi Badenoch has announced that the Conservative party will scrap inheritance taxes on family homes if the party is elected. The pledge was made during her main address to party members at the Conservatives’ conference.
Badenoch stated that the new pledge on inheritance taxes would not lead to its full abolition, with other property and savings still facing a levy. She also said it is her “ambition” to end the tax altogether, noting its impact on middle-class families.
Under the proposal, couples would be “able to leave an additional £1m pounds tax-free” to their families. This announcement forms part of the party’s economic offer, with Badenoch also mentioning plans to cut spending on welfare and international aid by approximately £70 billion and to end stamp duty on primary residences.
