Four years on from the Creeslough explosion that claimed 10 lives, including 14-year-old Leona Harper, families of the victims remain without an official explanation for the cause of the blast. Leona Harper's father, Hugh Harper, stated that the family is "desperate for answers" regarding the events of that day.
Gardaí (Irish police) sent a second file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in April 2026, in addition to a primary file forwarded last September. Despite a number of arrests, no one has been charged in connection with the explosion.
Hugh Harper said that four years later, the family feels no closer to understanding what happened. He believes a public inquiry is the only way to compel people to be questioned under oath and obtain definitive answers. A commemoration service for the 10 victims is scheduled to be held in Creeslough on Wednesday.
In July, a meeting was held in Dublin between families and the Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Micheál Martin. A spokesperson for the Irish Department of Justice stated that Minister Jim O'Callaghan's thoughts are with those affected and that the investigation's focus remains on ensuring processes proceed independently to establish the full facts.
