A Sydney court has heard that Beau Lamarre-Condon, a former police officer, allegedly faked a cancer diagnosis to explain his behaviour months before the alleged murders of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies. Lamarre-Condon is accused of fatally shooting Baird, 26, and his partner, Davies, 29, with a police service weapon in Baird’s Paddington home on 19 February 2024.
A close friend of Lamarre-Condon testified in the NSW supreme court on Friday that he had become “infatuated” with Baird. The friend stated that Lamarre-Condon “guilt-tripped” her into sending a 1,600-word Instagram message to Baird, which claimed he had a cancerous tumour and was undergoing surgery.
The message, read out in court, also suggested that medications for the alleged condition could affect a person's daily behaviour. The friend told the jury she had not attended the hospital with Lamarre-Condon and was unaware of this detail in the message. Lamarre-Condon has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and one charge of aggravated break and enter. The trial before Justice Natalie Adams continues.
