  • Stephen Mfuni, 18, joins Coventry City on a season-long loan.
  • Mfuni previously played eight times for Watford in the Championship.
  • This is Frank Lampard's 11th signing since Coventry's Premier League promotion.

Coventry City have completed the season-long loan signing of English defender Stephen Mfuni from Manchester City. The 18-year-old becomes head coach Frank Lampard's 11th acquisition since the club's promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season.

Mfuni, an England Under-19 international, made one senior appearance for Manchester City as a substitute in an FA Cup match last season. He also spent time on loan at Watford, where he featured eight times in the Championship.

Expressing his excitement, Mfuni stated, "I feel blessed to be here, it's exciting. These are moments you dream of and to do it with such a good team and a good squad, I'm looking forward to it." He added that he spoke to the gaffer, who wants him to demonstrate his usual play at either left-back or centre-back.

Coventry City currently sit 18th in the Premier League, having lost their initial two games of the season against Arsenal and Hull City.

Why this matters: The signing adds to Coventry City's squad depth as they navigate their return to the Premier League.
