Crisis urges landlords to house homeless, offering free support

Homelessness charity Crisis is asking landlords to provide homes for people facing homelessness, offering free support services including tenant matching and tenancy assistance.

  • Crisis provides free help to landlords to find tenants and support tenancies.
  • The charity helped 750 people into private rented homes last year.
  • Support for tenants can include help with deposits, advance rent, and money management.

Homelessness charity Crisis is calling on landlords to offer properties to individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The charity is providing free assistance to landlords, which includes a tenant matching service and ongoing support to help maintain tenancies.

This support can also include rent guarantee insurance, offered when deemed necessary. Landlords receive a dedicated contact and help with arranging direct rent payments. Crisis staff match prospective tenants to properties, considering the needs of both parties.

According to the NRLA, Crisis helped 750 people move into private rented homes last year and prevented another 102 from losing their accommodation. Support for tenancies can extend for up to six months after a tenant moves in, with mediation available for disputes.

Prospective tenants undergo suitability and affordability checks and can receive individual help with forms, understanding responsibilities, and advice on managing money. The service assists those already homeless, in temporary accommodation, or at risk.

What this means for you: If you are a landlord, you could consider letting your property through Crisis's tenant matching service, with free support and assistance provided.
