Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for 30 days by the Portuguese FA and fined £215 (€255) after leaving the national team camp. The federation's disciplinary council upheld the charge against the 41-year-old forward in full.
The suspension stems from a rift with coach Jorge Jesus over Ronaldo's role in the side. Ronaldo left Portugal's base in Copenhagen before a Nations League match against Denmark earlier this month, having accused Jesus of breaking his word regarding his playing role after being an unused substitute against Norway.
The disciplinary council's non-professional section determined Ronaldo had intentionally committed an offence under Article 160(1) of the federation’s disciplinary regulations. Proceedings began on 9 October, two days after the reported facts.
The Portuguese FA president, Pedro Proença, has indicated a desire for Ronaldo to return to the national team once the matter is resolved. Ronaldo has also apologised for failing to acknowledge supporters after the Norway match and for leaving his teammates, stating his availability for selection after serving any punishment.
