Crystal Palace and Everton Agree Brennan Johnson-Dwight McNeil Swap Deal

Crystal Palace and Everton have reached an agreement for a straight swap involving Brennan Johnson and Dwight McNeil, six months after a previous deal for McNeil collapsed.

  • Brennan Johnson joined Crystal Palace in January for £35m, becoming their record signing at the time.
  • Dwight McNeil's partner previously accused Crystal Palace of affecting his mental health after a February transfer deal fell through.
  • Both players are understood to have agreed four-year contracts with an option for an additional 12 months.

Crystal Palace and Everton have agreed a straight swap deal for Brennan Johnson and Dwight McNeil. This agreement comes six months after a previous attempt to sign McNeil by Palace was aborted, leading to accusations from McNeil’s partner regarding the impact on his mental health.

Johnson, who joined Palace from Tottenham in January for £35m, had been the club's record signing before Jørgen Strand Larsen's arrival. Both Johnson and McNeil are understood to have agreed to four-year contracts, with an option for a further 12 months, and are expected to undergo medicals today, Monday.

McNeil's previous move to Selhurst Park in February, for an agreed £20m fee, collapsed after Jean-Philippe Mateta's £30m transfer to Milan fell through. Palace then changed their offer to a loan with an obligation to buy, but ultimately pulled out of the deal. Johnson has not scored in 18 Premier League appearances for Palace and is believed to be one of their highest earners.

In other transfer news, Crystal Palace are also reportedly set to finalise a £21m deal for Anan Khalaili from Union Saint-Gilloise. The Israel right-back had his medical on Sunday and is expected to sign a five-year contract.
