Daiquiri Bay, a 10-1 shot, emerged victorious in the Ebor Handicap at York, edging out Hopewell Rock and Opportunity in a thrilling three-way sprint finish. The four-year-old gelding came up the nearside rails to beat a field of 22 competitors, securing the largest share of the £500,000 prize fund.
George Boughey's Hopewell Rock (13-2) was awarded second place after a photo finish, while William Haggas-trained Opportunity (14-1) secured third. Winning jockey Rossa Ryan stated that the race unfolded precisely as planned by trainer Alan King, who had plotted the course for this victory since April.
Ryan told ITV Sport that Daiquiri Bay has had a successful year, with this being his third win. Trainer Alan King expressed his disbelief and praised Ryan's ride, noting that the Ebor had been the plan since the horse's comeback win at Newmarket and subsequent Copper Horse Stakes victory at Royal Ascot in June. Pre-race favourite Love Me Tender (7-2) finished in 10th place.
