De Zerbi plays down Mathys Tel 'problem' after Tottenham's goalless draw

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has downplayed any issue with forward Mathys Tel following their 0-0 draw against Everton, a result that extends Spurs' Premier League goal drought to four matches.

  • Tottenham drew 0-0 with Everton, marking their fourth consecutive Premier League match without scoring.
  • Manager Roberto De Zerbi gave Mathys Tel instructions on the pitch after the match, stating his intention was to help the 21-year-old.
  • Richarlison was not an option for Tottenham in the Premier League until 2027 after being left out of the 25-man squad and failing to secure a move.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has dismissed suggestions of a problem with forward Mathys Tel after Saturday's goalless draw at home to Everton. Spurs have now fired a blank in the Premier League for a fourth consecutive match.

De Zerbi's immediate reaction after the final whistle was to offer instructions to Tel on the pitch. The manager explained his intention was to help the 21-year-old, who primarily plays at left wing, with his body shape as a striker.

De Zerbi stated, "I love Mathys as a player, as a guy and there is not a problem." However, he acknowledged that the team's bluntness in attack remains an issue. Tottenham created dangerous moments in the first 20 minutes but struggled to test Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford significantly.

Dominic Solanke made minimal impact on his first Premier League start since April, while Richarlison was unavailable until 2027 after being excluded from the club's 25-man Premier League squad and failing to secure a move to Vasco da Gama.

Why this matters: Tottenham's extended goal drought could impact their league performance and confidence.
