Roberto De Zerbi has opted against selecting Richarlison for Tottenham's Carabao Cup match at Liverpool on Tuesday. The attacker was previously excluded from the club's 25-man Premier League list earlier this month, having been informed he was not part of their plans.
Despite his Premier League exclusion, Richarlison is still eligible for domestic cup competitions. However, De Zerbi confirmed the former Everton forward will not play, stating, "Richarlison, you already know everything and nothing change for Carabao Cup or Premier League. The situation is the same."
The manager also revealed he had proposed a contract extension to Richarlison at the start of the season, which the player declined. Richarlison reportedly rejected a move to Vasco da Gama on Friday and was exploring the possibility of terminating the final nine months of his contract last week.
De Zerbi will also be without Pedro Porro and Sandro Tonali for the Anfield fixture. Following a goalless draw against Everton, De Zerbi indicated he would use "other players" at Liverpool but hinted against making wholesale changes to the squad.
