The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has unveiled a new £50 million nationwide support network for veterans, named VALOUR, with a specific call for existing veteran hubs in London and the East of England to join the initiative. Defence Minister Andrew Murrison highlighted the importance of these regions in creating a truly comprehensive support system across the UK.
VALOUR aims to integrate and enhance the services offered to former military personnel, providing a more cohesive and accessible network of support. As part of this programme, existing veteran organisations and hubs throughout the country are eligible to apply for significant funding, with individual grants potentially reaching up to £1 million.
The funding is designed to enable these local hubs to expand their services, improve facilities, and better meet the diverse needs of the veteran community. By encouraging existing organisations to join VALOUR, the MoD seeks to leverage established local expertise and infrastructure while providing the financial backing needed to scale up operations and ensure a consistent standard of care nationwide.
Minister Murrison emphasised that joining VALOUR would not only provide financial stability for these organisations but also connect them to a broader national framework, fostering collaboration and shared best practices. This integration is crucial for addressing common challenges faced by veterans, such as employment, housing, mental health support, and social reintegration.
The initiative builds on previous government commitments to support the veteran community, recognising the unique contributions and sacrifices made by service personnel. By investing in local veteran hubs, the MoD aims to ensure that support is readily available within communities, reducing barriers to access and promoting long-term well-being for veterans and their families.
