The Diana Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park has remained without water throughout the summer due to technical issues. Royal Parks, the charity responsible for the central London park, has apologised to visitors, particularly given the recent high temperatures.
The closure, publicly announced on 1 July, was initially caused by a mechanical breakdown in the pump that supplies water from a local borehole. Although the pump was fixed, a subsequent software failure prevented the water supply from being restored.
A spokesperson for the charity acknowledged that the fountain had "remained dry for longer than we hoped" while specialist teams worked to resolve the software problem. The same water supply network also feeds other Royal Parks locations.
Officials anticipate that water will begin flowing again "in the next few weeks". The £3.6m memorial, which opened in 2004, has experienced previous closures, including shortly after its opening due to visitor slips, and in 2005 for renovation work.
