Dr Mark Deakin, a consultant who worked with Lucy Letby, has been identified after a court anonymity order was lifted. Dr Deakin, who died in July at the age of 53, was described as Letby's "boyfriend" during her trial.
He worked alongside Letby, now 36, at the Countess of Chester Hospital when she murdered seven babies and attempted to murder six others in 2015 and 2016. Dr Deakin later worked at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.
An inquest will be opened into the circumstances surrounding Dr Deakin's death. Reports suggest he died shortly after learning he had been sacked for breaching patient confidentiality in text messages with Letby, and it is understood he had been unwell.
Details of their interactions were revealed during the Thirlwall inquiry, which heard they exchanged over 1,000 Facebook messages. Dr Deakin told the inquiry he was "misled" and "maybe manipulated" by Letby, and tricked into providing information about babies she had attacked.
During Letby's criminal trial, Dr Deakin gave evidence from behind a screen. Letby denied he was her boyfriend, though she accepted they had travelled to London together.
