A driver has died in a single-vehicle crash near Caddington, following a pursuit involving a marked police car. Bedfordshire Police stated that officers were alerted to a grey Audi being driven without its lights on in High Street South, Dunstable, at approximately 22:30 BST on Saturday.

The force reported that the 41-year-old driver failed to stop, leading to a police pursuit on the A5183 towards Markyate. Around 22:37, the car left the road near Caddington and collided with a tree, with no other vehicles involved.

Officers provided critical first aid, and emergency services later supported them. The driver was pronounced dead shortly before 23:30. His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support.

Bedfordshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in line with standard protocols, and an investigation has been launched. The road, which had a cordon in place between the Kensworth Turn and Caddington, has since reopened.
