A previously unreleased 'songwriting work tape' for The Beatles' 1965 track 'Day Tripper' has been made available. The recording captures John Lennon and Paul McCartney collaborating on the song, including moments of them laughing together and noting sound levels.
'Day Tripper' was initially developed by Lennon as a folk song before McCartney joined to complete the final version a month later. The finished track was completed during an eight-hour studio session.
This release comes ahead of a new expanded Special Edition of 'Rubber Soul', which is set to be released on October 2. The 'Day Tripper (Songwriting Work Tape)' will be included in this forthcoming edition, which features new stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes by producer Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell.
The 'Rubber Soul Special Edition' will also include the original mono mix, the original Capitol US Album version, 'We Can Work It Out', and a selection of previously unreleased session recordings and home demos. A demo song titled 'Little Girl', written and recorded by Lennon, will also be featured, alongside an 88-page hardbound book with an introduction by Paul McCartney and a foreword compiled from Lennon's words.
