The second season of Netflix's crime drama 'Dept Q' is currently being filmed in Scotland, with production in Edinburgh's FirstStage Studios and other locations across the country set to continue until October. The series, based on Jussi Adler Olsen's novels, sees Matthew Goode return as detective Carl Morck.
Executive producer Rob Bullock described the new season as "much more ambitious and much more cinematic," noting that it features over 100 locations across Scotland, a significant increase from the first season's 60. The show also incorporates "great big ambitious stunt set pieces."
The production team has taken steps to secure future filming possibilities, including scanning the Argyle House building, which doubles as the exterior of the police headquarters, in case a digital recreation is needed due to its planned demolition in 2033. Showrunner Scott Frank, who persuaded Netflix to locate the show in Scotland three years ago, will direct all episodes of the second season.
Leah Byrne, who plays DC Rose Dickson, highlighted the show's "very unashamedly Scottish" nature, which she believes brings a blend of light, humour, and darkness. The production has also contributed to the local industry by offering training to 60 young people through a scheme funded by Screen Scotland, Sony, and Left Bank Pictures.
